DIY Valentine's Bouquet

Valentine’s Day is one of my most favorite holidays! I love having an actual day to tell everyone how much you love them. (Every day should be Valentine’s Day!) Let’s face it: this year’s holiday is probably not your typical one. In 2021, I’ve turned my focus to treating myself when I can and enjoying the quiet time. One of my favorite things to do when I’m not writing is to arrange flowers. I never have enough cabinet space for all the vases, and I wondered if there was a way to use a vase all year round but switch out the flowers, and I came up with the DIY bouquet below. For the cost of a bouquet from the grocery store, you can have professional-looking flowers whenever you want!

Here’s what you’ll need:

A bunch of plastic greenery of your choice

The first thing I do is measure how long to cut my roses. I slide the vase I’m using to the edge of the counter and hold the stems up to it so they can hang down below the counter height. When the rose tops are the height I want for my vase, I cut the roses to the length of the counter.

Next, I strip all the leaves off. I’m using plastic greenery to fill the bouquet, so I don’t need the leaves. This plastic greenery can be used alone all year long when I don’t have roses.

When it’s just the plastic greenery, during the rest of the year, I don’t have water in the vase, but with the roses, I fill up the vase with room temperature water to preserve them as long as possible. I also make sure that the greenery I buy is plastic, not paper. As you know, the paper won’t hold up in water.

Once the greenery is in place, I insert the roses. Add a decorative bow and whatever else you like, and you have your very own Valentine’s Day bouquet.

After the holiday, you can drain the water, remove the roses, and enjoy the arrangement with no fuss at all.

I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day! Perhaps you can make a delicious cup of coffee, settle in next to your new bouquet, and read your favorite book. The eBook of The Memory Keeper is on a special promo right now, and you can get it here.
